About the Course

 

Mentoring for Change – a specially developed training program for mentors and case managers who need to motivate their clients to change behaviours.

​

If you are ready to turn client conversations and negotiations into effective exchanges that will motivate lasting behaviour change then this course is for you.

​

This course has a strong focus on mentoring in a cross-cultural context and taking a trauma-informed approach, and will help you set up the most productive mentoring relationship so you can consistently achieve results.

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

​

  • Understand the fundamentals of consistent and effective mentoring.

  • Set up the most effective mentoring relationship and identify appropriate techniques and strategies to use.

  • Learn effective goal setting and problem solving for change.

  • Identify key skills for encouraging people to commit to change.

  • Learn how to increase client engagement and produce greater participation in services.

  • Understand the importance of communication techniques including open-ended questioning, affirming, reflecting and summarising (OARS), listening with empathy, non-verbal communication to build rapport, active listening, questioning to understand and using spoken plain English.

  • Develop skills to resolve client ambivalence and uncertainty and tap into the fundamental motivation required for change.

  • Understand the facets of social intelligence required to build rapport, trust, and confidence in the mentoring relationship.
